The slit is an opening that controls how much light enters the spectrometer. The width of the slit affects resolution; the narrower the slit, the higher the resolution. However, narrower slits also decrease signal strength. These two factors must be balanced when selecting a slit size. In StellarNet spectrometers, the slit width is fixed. Most spectrometers offer slit sizes of 14, 25, 50, 100, and 200 µm. The high resolution spectrometers have small slits such as 14 or 25um.  Interchangeable slit options are available for some spectrometer models. ContactUs@StellarNet.us for more information.
