As we head into the fall semester and get ‘Back to School’ it is hard not to notice that this year is different than years past. COVID-19 has students, professors, and the world trying to figure out how to learn, educate, & continue research while staying as safe as possible.  Many universities are doing remote learning, labs from home, or doing work in small socially distant groups. This is our new normal.

This week would have been the Fall American Chemical Society Conference and our very own SpectraWizard would have been visiting with our many academic partners, performing spectroscopy demonstrations, and of course dancing through the expo hall!

This year, at least, we can continue to offer our friends in academia our FREE educational spectrometer promotion. Please read below for more details and try to get ‘Safely Back to Spectroscopy’!

Your University can receive a complete GREEN-Wave educational spectroscopy system from StellarNet for FREE. Purchase a research grade spectrometer system over $6,000 and you can choose one of three educational systems to bring into your classroom.

Options for your FREE teaching systems include :

Chemical Absorbance GREEN-Wave_Absorbance

GREEN-Wave Spectrometer, F400 Fiber Optic Cable, SL1-Cuvette

Light MeasurementGREEN-Wave Radiometer

GREEN-Wave Spectrometer, F400 Fiber Optic Cable, CR2 Cosine Receptor Irradiance Calibration Service

Color Measurement GREEN-Wave Colorimetry

GREEN-Wave Spectrometer, F400 Fiber Optic Cable, RFX Reflectance fixture, RS50 white standard

These systems include everything you would require to bring spectroscopy into the classroom. StellarNet will provide the spectroscopy hardware, software, and suggestions for easy labs and lectures involving spectroscopy! From now until the end of September any purchase of a BLACK-Comet, SILVER-Nova, BLUE-Wave, DWARF-Star, RED-Wave, or Raman spectrometer system over $6,000 will qualify.  Many of these research grade systems can be configured for Chemical Absorbance, Fluorescence, Raman, LIBS,  SpectroRadiometry, NIR spectroscopy and much more. Take a look through our Research Systems . You must have a valid .edu email address and this offer is only valid while supplies last and through our US Sales Office. This promotion cannot be combined with any other offer or discount.

The StellarNet Laboratory Handbook is a bound collection of six spectroscopy lab experiments all relying on relevant, practical applications.  Each lab outlines learning goals, the material and equipment needed, and has pre-and post-lab questions. The handbook is available to any of StellarNet’s customers.

1. Quantification of Food Dye in Sports Drinks
2. Spectrophotometric Analysis of Cran-Apple Juice
3. Quantification of Riboflavin in Energy Drinks
4. Exploring Chemical Bonding Using Raman
5. Spectroscopy Application: Using Raman Spectroscopy to Detect Art Forgeries
6. Redox Titration of Ferricyanide to Ferrocyanide

Learn How Professors are Planning for Fall Semester

As part of our ‘Safely Back to Spectroscopy’ promotion, learn how some professors are planning for fall semester. Some are developing online labs using Google Sites, giving students choice during online experiments, enabling spectrometers through remote desktops, and even working and experimenting outdoors! Add or share your COVID teaching, lab, and/or research plans for this semester. We are all in this together.

Experiments from Home with Professor Mike Davis

Continuing our ‘Safely Back to Spectroscopy’ promotion, Professor Mike Davis, from St. Petersburg College, performs some chemistry experiments from his home. He uses his BLUE-Wave spectrometer to show how the absorbance of food dye mixtures corresponds to their perceived color.
