Abstract

The feasibility of near- infrared (NIR) spectroscopy to discriminate the freshness of an Indian Major Carp, Rohu (Labeo rohita) was investigated in this paper. The spectroscopic readings of Rohu samples were recorded for the wavelength range between 900 and 1700 nm in absorbance mode. The Principal Component Analysis (PCA) was applied to analyze the spectral data and distinguishable clusters were obtained. Study revealed that, the freshness of the Rohu could be distinguished by NIR Spectroscopy. The Separability Index (SI) of the raw data was also measured as 873.7008. Preliminary results showed that, this technique could be applied for discrimination of Rohu fish freshness.
