NIST Traceable Calibration
NIST Calibrations
The factory performs calibrations for the StellarRAD using NIST traceable calibration lamps for absolute intensity in Watts/m^2/nm. Absolute calibration: accuracy within 10% at detector integration setting used for calibration.
IRRAD-CAL Certificate is included which contains all pertinent NIST traceable calibration information.
Optional RAD-CAL-SR or Radiance calibration (W/m^2/sr) can be purchased with your StellarRAD. This type of calibration is often purchased when measuring display screens and backlights. Must also purchase the CRLENS accessory.
Other calibrations can also be purchased with each StellarRAD system. Contact your local technical sales representative for the best configuration for you.

StellarRAD FAQ
Can I plug a USB cable into the StellarRAD’s external USB drive port and connect to a computer?
No, the external USB drive allows you to access all data that you have saved onto the StellarRAD’s tablet. This includes spectral data, screenshots, PDF reports, and more.
Can I use a regular computer running SpectraWiz or any other program with my StellarRAD device?
Series 4 : No. The Series 4 StellarRAD is a stand-alone instrument. It is compatible with our other accessories, but it cannot be used with a PC.
Series 3 :Yes, you can use VirtualHere, a USB-over-IP utility, to access the StellarRAD. You can download VirtualHere Download VirtualHere Win64 or other versions at https://virtualhere.com. Use your regular computer’s WiFi to login to the StellarRAD’s access point and launch virtual here. Don’t forget you must install SpectraWiz and related drivers on your computer in order for the computer to recognize the device. You will be able to run SpectraWiz and any customizable Windows program as if you had the device connected directly to your USB port!
Sometimes it takes a minute or so to establish WiFi connection. Is this normal?
Series 4: The Series 4 StellarRAD does not rely on WiFi for communication between the spectrometer and tablet.
Series 3: The StellarRAD consists of an Android tablet and a spectrometer server (right-side power button). The spectrometer server must power up for about 1 minute before spectral data can stream to the android tablet. The spectrometer server requires minimum power to operate and can be left on during and in between measurements so the system WiFi connection doesn’t have to be continually established.
Why are there two power indicators?
There is a main system battery as well as the tablet’s internal battery. The battery icon in the StellarRAD app is for the system and the tablet power information can be found in the upper right corner.
How can I get the newest version of the StellarRAD Pro Software?
We are continually updating our Pro software options for our handheld systems. Visit the Google Play store for the most recent versions and download and install directly on your StellarRAD device. Go to StellarRAD Pro Version 3.4
Are there any trade-in options if I already have an older model and want to upgrade?
Yes, please find our trade-in program here
What is the battery life expectations of the system?
Typically you can expect 4-6 hours with the Series 3 and 4 Handheld Systems. They have additional internal battery packs compared to older versions. Depending if you run continuously or have lamps powered on, your battery life could be reduced. Like many other consumer electronics with integrated batteries, leaving them without charge or charging for extended periods would be considered misuse and can reduce lifetimes and lead to failure. Using your system regularly is the best way to assure the longevity of the system.
StellarRAD Software Interface
Take a tour of our StellarRAD Pro software delivered on our new Series 4 StellarRAD Handheld SpectroRadiometer. This quick demo shows how to connect to the device, modify Device Settings (integration time, scans to average, smoothing), take a dark reference, capture sample data, and save and review spectral data! This quick demo is just the beginning of the spectrum as the StellarRAD also features Episodic Data Capture, PDF reporting, and much more!
Light Hurricane Demo
The intuitive StellarRAD software interface allows system control and collection of advanced light measurement parameters such as spectral irradiance (Watt/m²), illuminance (lumen/m²), & PAR (Photosynthetically Active Radiation). Colorimetric analysis such as CRI (Color Rendering Index), CCT (Correlated Color Temperature), xy chromaticity, and much more are included. Capture snapshots or continuous mode spectra. Easily save and export your data and full spectral graph as an .IRR text data file, screenshot, and/or PDF report with all parameters listed.
StellarRAD Applications – LEDs, Luminaires, Solar, Displays, Grow Lights, & Lasers!
Any Light Emission
What better way to demonstrate a handheld radiometer than to measure a candle flame! Any type of light emission can be measured by pointing the StellarRAD’s cosine receptor toward the light source, setting the best exposure time and system settings, and pressing capture.
