StellarScope Microscope System – Quick Start

Assembling StellarScope Microscope System
  • Locate all the pieces for the StellarScope Microscope System.
  • Remove Eyepiece.
  • Assemble Upper Mount.

  • Loosen set screw on the U-TLU with hex key, and carefully insert the U-DPCAD. Once inserted, tighten set screw to secure U-DPCAD.
  • Attach C-Mount to U-DPCAD.

  • Attach Mount to Microscope. Carefully place the entire upper mount where the eyepiece was located. Use the eyepiece set screw on the right side of the arm to secure the upper mount in place.

  • Attach the DinoEye Digital Camera to the upper mount. The camera port is located on the opposite side of the view mode switch.
  • Use the switch on the front of the upper mount to to switch to the Camera view.
    • When in Spectral View, use SpectraWiz or StellarPro to analyze your sample.
    • When in Camera View, you can use the DinoEye Digital Camera to inspect your sample.
      • Dino-Lite Camera Software can be downloaded from http://www.dino-lite.com/download.php. Once downloaded, the camera software can be launched through either SpectraWiz or StellarPro Software. If your system includes the Zaber Stage, you will be able to view the Dino-Lite Camera in StellarPro without needing to install the Dino-Lite Camera Software.

  • Assemble Spectroscopy System. Be sure to attach the correct legs of the reflectance to the light source and spectrometer. The white label on the fiber will indicate which leg attaches to the spectrometer.
  • To find the best spot for the probe, first switch to Camera View and gently insert and push down the Reflectance Probe Tip into the Upper Mount until stopped by the camera view switch; this position allows you to switch seamlessly between Camera View and Spectral View without adjusting the probe distance. If you are using Spectral View only and want a stronger signal with a shorter integration time, switch to Spectral View and then insert the probe all the way down. After positioning the probe at the desired spot, secure it with the set screw.
  • The microscope should now be completely assembled (without the Zaber Stage). It will look similar to this:

Notes:

  • When you rotate the microscope lenses, make sure to complete a full rotation and listen for a ‘click’ sound to ensure the light is fully passing through the lens.
  • The microscope light source should only be used with the DinoEye Digital Camera in Camera View. Do NOT use the microscope light when capturing spectra in Spectral View. Additionally, ensure the power supply is plugged into the microscope when using the light source.

Assembling Microscope Zaber Stage
  • Place the adapter plate on top of the microscope and secure it with the set screw on the right-hand side.

  • Gently place the Zaber Stage on top of the adapter plate. Note: The charging port and connection port of the stage should face to the left.

  • Plug the power supply into the first port and connect the USB cable to the computer using the third port on the left side of the stage. The LED should turn green when everything is connected successfully.
  • Secure the stage with the 4 set screws. There are 2 screw holes towards the back and 2 towards the front. You might not be able to see all 4 screws at once; instead, you will need to control the stage using the software.
    • To control the Zaber Stage through the StellarPro or StellarPro-TFC software, you MUST do one of the following:
      • Ensure you are connected to the internet, OR
      • Place the provided ‘zaber_devices’ folder, which contains a .json file, into the ‘C:\Program Files\StellarNet’ directory.
    • In the StellarPro Raman app or StellarPro-TFC, navigate to the Microscopic Control window and click the ‘Connect’ button.
    • To view all 5 set screw holes, set the current position to X=0 and Y=75, or set the step size to 1 mm for both X and Y, and then continuously press the down arrow until all 4 screw holes are visible. Alternatively, adjust the position to set the 2 back screws first, then readjust the position to set the 2 front screws.
  • Finally, place the universal sample holder on top of the stage.

  • The microscope with the Zaber Stage completely assembled will look similar to this:
