- Turn on the ChemWiz ADK’s main spectrometer engine (right side power button) and tablet (top).
- Turn on the light source (left side button) and allow 2-3 minutes of system warm-up.
- Launch the ChemWiz ADK App.
- Verify software and spectrometer engine connection.
- Place the white RS50 reflectance standard on the fixture and collect a spectrum using the Capture button. It is important to take your reference in the same way that you will be measuring your sample. If your sample requires a glass dish, place the RS50 inside of the dish and take the spectrum.
- Verify your Device Settings are properly set and your white light reflectance spectrum is optimized. Typically, 5-6ms integration time, 300 sample averages, and 2 smoothing are best. The maximum counts value in scope mode needs to be as close to 40,000 as possible. However, the settings can be adjusted for different sample types. These settings should be saved to your system’s configuration file and automatically be set upon system initialization. If they are not, you can easily re-set the parameters and exit the software and they will automatically be updated.
The goal of optimizing your conditions is to collect as much light as possible without saturating.
An example of saturation – notice the flat top – decrease the integration time. |
An example of not enough light – notice the counts value is only ~16000 at peak – increase the integration time. |
- With the RS50 on top of the reflectance fixture, turn off the lamp source and press the Take Dark Spectrum button – you should see your spectrum drop to a flat line around 0 counts.
- Turn the lamp source back on and click the Take Light Spectrum button.
- Now the system is ready to capture the spectrum. Place your sample and push the Capture button.
