Sun-Pac is a nutraceutical manufacturing company that has been around for more than 20 years. They specialize in tablets, pills, powder, packing, pet supplements and final packaging of nutraceutical products. Sun-Pac has increased in size by over 10 times over the past 23 years, literally going from a 5,000 sq ft facility during the early years to a 50,000 sq ft facility they occupy today. Their growth is indicative of that special factor that sets them apart from other manufacturing companies. Sun-Pac’s employees are committed to quality, and delivering great products on time. Working with over 1,000 ingredients every year, Sun-Pac ensures quality from start to finish. As a large manufacturer, this company has developed a pristine system for quality assurance on a massive scale.
Within the nutraceutical industry, it’s commonplace to use spectroscopy techniques for quality assurance. Companies usually purchase UV-Vis, NIR, and/or Raman systems to characterize the spectral characteristics of their raw materials in order to attain the unique spectral ID of their raw materials received from vendors. By collecting these spectral IDs, the manufacturer can build a library to create a standard to measure against for quality assurance when receiving future shipments of their raw materials. For non aqueous substances, the NIR spectrometer is more popular than the Raman because it does not struggle with fluorescence interference. In the reverse, the Raman is ideal for dealing with aqueous substances because water absorbs in the NIR, making characterization of aqueous samples difficult for NIR – water does not interfere with Raman measurements.
When a vendor delivers a pallet of ingredients, Sun-Pac takes samples from each receivable. They place the samples in a whirl-pak sampling bag then use StellarNet’s instruments for qualitative analysis. All incoming ingredients, product blends are tested before they reach final packaging. Sun-Pac uses NIR technology, courtesy of StellarNet, to determine the efficacy of the final product, ensuring fast and reliable manufacturing as a result.
“Fastest NIR Spectrometer” according to a Sun-Pac quality chemist.
Sun-Pac Manufacturing has been using StellarNet NIR spectrometers for 5 years! According to the lab manager, StellarNet’s NIR spectrometers are the fastest, most consistent, and most reliable compared to other brands he has used. Speed and reliability is crucial to large manufacturing facilities like Sun-Pac so they can continue to deliver high quality products to meet their customers’ demands.
Sun-Pac has received multiple certifications over the years in order to fulfill their commitment to deliver high quality nutraceutical products. They have even attained the Halal Production Facility Registration, showing their adherence to Halal Production Standards and meeting the needs and quality standards of their Muslim customers. In 2018, Sun-Pac Manufacturing was certified by the Quality Certification Services, under the USDA National Organic Program, as a certified organic manufacturer. Through the use of NIR Spectroscopy, this nutraceutical company has managed attain a high level of commitment.
